Patricia Ann Lucas Duerr, 76, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Pat was a born in Montevallo, Alabama and was a Yorktown, VA resident for over 41 years. Pat graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Alabama in 1963 and received the B.B. Comer Mathematics Medal for Excellence in Mathematics. After a short professional career at Sperry Rand, she devoted herself to her family, church and community. She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown. She led and participated in many Bible studies as well as Girls in Action (GAs), a missions discipleship organization for elementary-age girls. Her primary ministry was an unofficial one of loving and ministering to those in need through visits, phone calls, and many, many cards and letters. She loved to travel with her family, especially to the beautiful National Parks. She had a special love of Glacier National Park which she was able to revisit with Rolf last fall. She was an avid Alabama football fan and took great pleasure in their national championships. Her daily delights included talking with friends and family, watching backyard birds, and admiring wildflowers.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents Kirk S. and Lessie I. Lucas and a brother, E. Riley Lucas. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Rolf Duerr, her son Erik K. Duerr and his wife Alissa of Groton, MA and a granddaughter, Emma Jane Duerr. She is also survived by her brothers, Kirk S. Lucas, Jr. and his wife Pat and Don R. Lucas and his wife Betty. She will also be missed by the families of her brothers-in-love, Finn & Sally Duerr and Eirik & Ana Mary Duerr. She loved and was involved in the lives of her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Laughlin Service will announce the date and time. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church (Yorktown, VA), Wycliffe Bible Translators (Orlando, FL), St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (Huntsville, AL), or Big Oak Ranch (Springville, AL)
