Cathryn Elizabeth Powers – Obituary

Dr. Cathryn Elizabeth Powers passed away on Dec. 12, 2017, at the age of 39. Cathryn was passionate about spreading the message of Jesus Christ through her medical mission work and was serving the people of Mali, Africa as an obstetrics doctor at the time of her death. Cathryn was born on Jan. 30, 1978, in Memphis, Tennessee. At the age of four she moved with her family to Japan where she spent most of her childhood. The family moved back to the states and settled in Alabama where she graduated from Muscle Shoals High School. Cathryn graduated Summa Cum Laude from Auburn University. She earned her medical degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and completed her residency at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW). Cathryn devoted her life and medical career to helping people most desperately in need serving as an Ob-Gyn in West Africa. She loved her profession and was dedicated to the health and safety of the women and babies in her care.

Cathryn is survived by her father and mother, Ed and Cathy Powers, of Lake Wales, Florida; her brother and sister-in-law, Hilliard and Audra Powers, of Madison, Alabama; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who loved her dearly.

A memorial service for Dr. Cathryn Powers will be held at The Village Church Dallas Northway Campus on Jan. 20, 2018, at 2 p.m. located at 3877 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75229.
