Jack Gibbs, Tuscumbia, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017 at the age of 94. Graveside services will be Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Barton Cemetery for the family. Morrison Funeral Home will be directing.
Mr. Gibbs was the second child of Edna Ann Inman and Lewis C. Gibbs, Sr., born February 7, 1923. He was born and raised in Barton, Alabama, graduated from C.V.H.S. class of 1923. He was a WWII veteran, serving 1943 – 1945 in the U.S. Army, 9th Air Force, Co. A Signal, stationed in France and Germany as a radio operator in the Battle of the Bulge.
Always the automobile buff, his career as a salesman or management included Jesse Hammond Motors, Motordome, Gateway Lincoln-Mercury, and Ray Pearman Lincoln-Mercury. During the 1960’s he owned Jack Gibbs Rambler and the local MG franchise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lewis C. Gibbs, Jr., sister, Christine G. Dabbs, and infant daughter, Kathy Leigh Gibbs, mother of his children Kathleen M. Gibbs.
Survivors include: son, John Mitchell Gibbs, Tuscumbia; daughters Jeanne M. Gibbs, Ohio, Amy Jo Gibbs, Huntsville, AL, and Jacque G. Stutts (Richard A.) Tuscumbia; grandchildren Molli S. Kirby, Leigh S. Heifner, John F. Kurtess II; great-grandchildren, Harrison, Blake, Ella Katherine and Leighton; sister Gertrude G. McFall, nieces and cousins.
