Charles David Payne – Obituary

Charles David Payne, 56, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at 6:05 PM after a 6 month struggle with cancer. David, a well- known and beloved citizen of the Plantersville area, was born in Tupelo on November 13, 1960 to the late Charles E. Payne and Miriam Towery Saylors. He lived all his life on the Towery/Payne family farm south of Plantersville. David graduated from Shannon High School in l979 and from ICC with an Electrical Technology Degree. A lover of the land and the outdoors, David had a full 25 year career with the State of Mississippi as the Maintenance Director for Tombigbee State Park. After retiring from there, he worked briefly for ICC in Maintenance and was water operator for the Town of Plantersville several years where he also served as Chief of the Plantersville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a volunteer with the Union Fire Department. His last few years has been spent as the Chief Water System Operator for the City Point Water System. He was a lifelong member of the Plantersville United Methodist Church, loved working his land, manicuring his pastures and fences and raising cattle on the D and S Farms. His place was immaculate as was his equipment and his always plentiful garden. He was crazy about his dog, Freckles. David had a servant’s heart and enjoyed taking care of his family and all his many, many friends everywhere.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 PM Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Plantersville United Methodist Church with his pastor, Rev. Lynn Fair officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM-service time Sunday only at the Church. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their neighbors.

Those left to mourn his passing including his wife, Susan Triemstra Payne, to whom he married May 16, 2003; his mother, Miriam Towery Saylors all of Plantersville. His sisters, Elizabeth Payne Scott and husband, Gary of Nettleton and Cindy Payne Googe and husband, Boyce of Saltillo; his niece, Charlie Googe and his nephew, Gary Scott, Jr. and his wife, Staci and their children, Reagan, Lindsey and Sadie. He was preceded in death by his dad, Charlie Payne and his grandparents, Charlie and Vera Towery and David and Esther Payne.
