Michael L. Fleming, age 56, lost a tough year-long battle with cancer on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017.
As a young man Mike left Muscle Shoals for a life full of adventure. He lived in New Mexico, Delaware, and Florida often traveling on his motorcycle.
Mike could always land a great job, make new friends, and win the hearts of those who knew him. He had many talents; among those were home renovations, including building houses and landscaping. In time he favored a simpler life at the home he built near Florence with his dog, Oliver. Mike had a kind heart and often spent time with his parents assisting them with various projects.
Throughout his illness Mike never gave up hope and talked of creating some paths in his woods and making a trip to south Florida.
Mike also expressed regrets and his wish to encourage younger people to consider the consequences to the choices we make in life. He prayed to Jesus and relied on scripture for support and comfort. Like the prodigal son in Luke, “This brother was lost but is now found, was dead but is now ALIVE.” We love you and will miss you, Mike, but we picture you more handsome than ever with your best canine friend “Oliver” by your side—healthy, peaceful and amazed in the presence and love of God in your heavenly home.
A memorial service for Mike will be held Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Chapel in Florence, Alabama.
Mr. Fleming is survived by his parents, JoAnn and Willie Fleming; sisters, Lisa Fleming and Debbie Fleming Chandler and husband, Bobby; and a nephew, Cars.
Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, is assisting the family.
