L. N. Smith, of Killen, was born April 7, 1930, to James F. (Dock) and Maudie B. (Dollie) Smith and passed from this life on Sept. 30, 2017.

He was a member of Atlas Church of Christ and loved the Lord greatly. He prayed daily for his family and friends to be Christian.

He grew up during a time of hard work and never changed his work ethic throughout his life. He always worked to better his life for his family, earning his GED in order to get a job at Reynolds.

He was a carpenter by trade, first with his daddy and brother, building houses as Smith Brothers Builders, then at Reynolds Metals. He retired in 1992.

L.N. loved all sports from his younger years, bird hunting with his good friends, C.E. Glover and Oscar Wallace, to playing County League baseball. He learned the game of golf in his 30’s and played until his heart attack in 2016. He was a member of a golf team at Reynolds that advanced in competition to play for the Doral Country Club. He had 5 hole-in-ones! He loved his golf buddies.

Through the years, he enjoyed going to and watching first the St. Louise Cardinals, then the Altanta Braves. He was an Alabama football fan.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brother, Preston Smith; and great-grandchildren, Molly Caroline Smith and Cooper Kennedy Hyche. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Hazel Roberson Smith; children, Glenda Smith Kennedy(Larry), Ricky Smith and Cindy Smith Adams (Jerry); grandchildren, Nicole Glass (Tim), Natalie Hyche, Caine Smith, Tila O’Gara (Liam), and Andy Smith; great-grandchildren, Jordan Smith, Anna Kate and Brodie Glass, Jackson Hyche and Colton Zills; sister, Barbara Parker (Alton); and brother, Travis Smith (Pat).

Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Miles Stutts and Brother Ronnie Ray, officiating. Entombment will be at Tri-Cities Masoleum.

Serving as pallbearers will be Caine Smith, Andy Smith, Jordan Smith, Charles Glover, Michael LeMay, and David Flippo.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for the loving care they provided to Mr. Smith.
