Virgil Frank Hudson, Jr., 86, formerly of Oneonta, passed away Sept. 2, 2017. Frank was born July 12, 1931, in Oneonta. He graduated from Blount County High School in 1951, where he was a multi-sport star athlete. He received a football scholarship from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Frank proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War conflict. Frank and Sara owned and operated Hudson’s Antiques and Hudson’s Auction Gallery for over 35 years, bringing many beautiful antiques and works of art from around the world to North Alabama. Frank was a licensed auctioneer. He was an avid University of Alabama football fan. He enjoyed fishing and boating on the Tennessee River with his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents Virgil Frank Hudson and Ellie Horton Hudson Campbell; stepfather, Otis Steven Campbell; and sisters, Nellie Jo Rodgers, Sarah Hudson Nelson, Cecile Hudson Brock and Frances Hudson Shirley.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sara Layton Hudson; son, Steve Hudson (Patricia B.); daughter, Gina Hudson Stockburger (Paul); grandson, Steven F. Hudson, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Lemley Funeral Home, 6878 2nd Avenue West, Oneonta, AL 35121 from noon to 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Lemley Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Fred Webster of Central United Methodist Church of Decatur officiating. Military Honors will follow the memorial service.
