Nellie Jones Berry – Obituary

Mrs. Nellie Jones Berry departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilation Center in Florence at the age of 94 years, 10 months, 27 days. She was born Sept. 23, 1922 in Wayne County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Marshall A. and Flora Copeland Jones.

She was united in marriage to Eugene Allen Berry on Jan. 6, 1942. Mr. Berry preceded her in death on July 12, 1996.

Mrs. Berry and her late husband, Gene, were the owners of the Chatter Box Cafe in Florence which they ran for many years. She was a member of the Scotts Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Wayne County Historical Society.

She is survived by daughters, Rev. Eugenia Joyce Alexander, Port Orange, Florida, Essa Joan Hart, Iron City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Robert A. Alexander, Cary Alexander, Danasa McColl, Derek Pierce, Jimmy Dean; great-grandchildren, Tyler Alexander, Morgan Alexander, Braden McColl, Grace Dean, Allie Pierce, Alexis Pierce, Hadley Pierce, Tucker Furline; great-great-grandchild, Madalyn Cochran; sisters, Vada Elizabeth Wright of Collinwood, Tennessee, Jimmy Juanita Reeves of Cherokee. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by brothers, Warren Jones and Marshall C. Jones and sister, Ova Jean Jaynes.

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home chapel in Collinwood, Tennessee, with John Allen Berry and John E. Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at Shackelford Funeral Home, Collinwood.
