Marcella “Mott” Smith, 88, died Aug. 16, 2017. Mott was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County and was a member of First Baptist Church Anderson where she taught Sunday school and women’s auxiliary. She worked at Lexington Fab, was a beautician for many years, and she was a well-known seamstress. She enjoyed dancing and cooking for family and friends. Her home was known for all the singing, good music, and a hangout for everyone. She loved her family, friends, and church with an unfailing love!
Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, from 1-3p.m. at First Baptist Anderson Church with funeral to follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be held at Mitchell Cemetery. J.D. Harris, Tyler Smith, and James Waddell will be officiating. Keith Owens will be leading the music.
Pallbearers will be Matt Dewberry, Tyler Smith, Justin Smith, Lance Webster, Greg Bass, Eric Craig, Ricky Phillips, and Lynn Burgess.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Leonard and Ruby Burgess; husband, Henry Franklin Smith; sister, Margaret I. Phillips; and granddaughter, Susan Bass.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Charles) Bullard and Tammy Dewberry; sons, Mike Smith and Scotty (Cathy) Smith; brother, Tommy Burgess; grandchildren, Justin Smith, Tyler (Alaina) Smith, Cherie (Lance) Webster, Greg Bass, Matt (Jennifer) Dewberry, and Laura Dewberry; six great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Harold (Katie) Smith; special friend, Ouida Conn.; and a host of dear family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Ms. Mott, the family requests donations to be made to First Baptist Church Anderson building fund or Southern Care Hospice. The family would like to extend sincere, heartfelt thanks to Southern Care Hospice for taking such loving care of their mother.
