William Gill Holland, 69, formerly of Muscle Shoals, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at Veterans Affairs Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Gill was born July 31, 1947, to William R. and Dorothy May Eckles Holland in Sheffield, Alabama.
He graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in 1966 and joined the U.S. Army in March of 1967.
Gill was a member of the 101st Airborne Division and served in the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Purple Heart before being honorably discharged with the rank of lieutenant in February of 1969.
To his first marriage were born two sons, Heath and Thomas Holland.
Gill later moved to Oklahoma and married Teri (Mitchell) Swisher in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1986.
Gill, Teri and her two children, Michael and Whitney Swisher, moved to Muscle Shoals in May of 1989.
Gill and Teri’s daughter, Kayela, was born in Florence in October of 1992.
Gill, Teri, and Kayela moved to El Dorado, Arkansas in June of 1997 where he resumed his career in the oilfield until retiring in 2016.
Gill and Teri returned to Kingfisher in January of 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edgar Berry, Larry Holland, Phillip Holland, and Charles Holland.
He is survived by his wife of the home; sons, Heath Holland and Thomas Holland, of El Dorado, Arkansas; son, Michael Swisher and wife, Julie, of Kingfisher; daughter, Whitney Marshall and husband, Kevin, of Piedmont, Oklahoma; daughter, Kayela Mosley and husband, Taylor, of Kingfisher; brother, Jesse Holland, of Moulton, Alabama; sister, Amanda Arias and husband, Gildardo, of Boerne, Texas; grandchildren, Dustin Holland, Tyler Robinson, Shanarra Holland, Mandy Holland, Teghan Vogt, Kaylie Marshall, Braxton Marshall, Maya Haney, Emily Mosley, and Caitlyn Holland; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Carson, and Levi Robinson.
The family is planning private memorial services in Arkansas and Alabama.
Memorials may be made in Gill’s name to the American Cancer Society.
