ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement regarding the arrest of a man on five warrants of sex offender violations on Thursday, June 29:
“Joseph Lee Moore was arrested Thursday, June 29 on 5 warrants for violations of the sex offender notification act. The charges are failure to register as a sex offender, terminating residence without notification, prohibited residence location, prohibited employment location and failure to pay registration fees.
Officer Greg Parnell obtained the warrants after Moore didn’t register with whit our department in May of 2017. Moore had also moved from the address he gave our department without notifying us which he is not allowed by law to do. While looking for Moore Parnell was able to determine Moore had been staying on Herford Street within 2000 feet of a school, which by law he can’t do. Moore had also been working at a car wash across from Athens High School which he is not allowed by law to do.
Moore was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
