John Paul Vickroy Sr., 71 of Arab, died Saturday June 24, 2017 at Marshall Medical Center North.
Mr. Vickroy was born August 21, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. to Carl Newton Vickroy and Elizabeth Agnes Knopp Vickroy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He and the former Diane Lynn Soyk were married for 51 years. He was a teacher in the public school system in Chicago until his retirement. He and his wife moved to the Arab area 7 years ago from Tinley Park, IL. He enjoyed hiking, fishing and writing.
Mr. Vickroy was of the Lutheran Faith.
He is survived by his wife: Diane L. Vickroy; his sons and daughter-in-law: Carl Vickroy, John Vickroy Jr. and Wendy; his daughter: Laura Vickroy; grandchildren: Lukas Vickroy and Kiesha, David Butler, Kryston Ellis and Andrew, Samantha Butler, Ryan Butler, John Paul Vickroy III and Cora Vickroy; his brothers and sister-in-law: Sam Vickroy, Richard Vickroy and Ann and a sister Ursula Swanson.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday June 27, 2017 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. The family elected cremation with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, assisting.
