William David Sockwell, 88, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 1 P.M. in the chapel, with burial in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Brother Ted Vafeas and Brother Charlie James.
David was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and worked for TVA from 1952 until 1987. He was a 1946 graduate of Deshler High School and graduated from Florence State Teachers College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollis and Ella Sockwell; wife, Joyce Sockwell; brother, Joel Sockwell; son, Steve Sockwell; and special aunt, Lula Mae Sockwell.
He is survived by his sons, Stan Sockwell, of Muscle Shoals, Dr. Craig Sockwell (Suanne), of Muscle Shoals, and Carl Sockwell (Patti), of Pinson, AL; grandchildren, Samantha, Chad, Chris, Kevin, Stuart, Drew, Forrest, Kirstin, Amanda, and Taylor; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Colbert Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
