David Allen Knighten, 75, of Somerville, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, at his residence. Mr. Knighten was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was retired from General Motors. He was born April 16, 1942, in Decatur to R.Q. and Dorothy Garrison Knighten. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step- father, Rufus Daniel Nix.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Baker Knighten; two daughters, Barbara Kellam and Tracy Ratliff; sister, Carol Culp; five grandchildren, Shawna Leathers, John Henry Livingston, Savannah McGill, Boone Livingston and Darla Ennis; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzy Tidwell, Ocean McGill and Camryn Livingston; his stepmother, Virginia Knighten; stepbrother, David Cronon and three stepsisters, Annette Pillow, Carol Stevens and Janet Byers; also a special nephew, Jeff Vice who was like his son.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral will be Friday, June 2, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Hartselle Heritage with Dr. T. Reynolds Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
