Sara Buford Welch of Huntsville passed away at home Thursday after a long illness. She was 80 years old. Sara was a longtime resident of Huntsville, moving here in 1956 with her husband Harry, after growing up in Asheville, NC. She was married to Harry for over 60 years before he passed away in March of 2016.

Sara is survived by two sons, Chris and Bill, and three grandchildren, Abbie, Maggi and Molly; and two cousins, Emily Faucett of Atlanta and Nancy McBride of Memphis

Sara was a wonderful wife and mother with a generous heart. She loved volunteering and helping people and was a member of the Grace Club Auxiliary, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild, the Huntsville Museum of Art’s Women’s Guild and a member of the Hospice Board of Directors. She taught Sunday school and was a longtime member of the Church of The Nativity.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at The Church of Nativity, Ridley Hall. The memorial service will follow at the church with the Rev. Rusty McCown officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Church of The Nativity.
