Mr. Harland Wayne Pigg, 80, longtime beloved Okolona resident, died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at North MS Medical Center after an extended illness. Harland was born April 6, 1937 in Carthage, MS, Leake Co. to Shelby Pigg and Maggie Thornton Pigg. He was a 1956 graduate of Carthage High School. He became a Chickasaw Countian in the mid l950’s. For over 35 years, Harland was manager of Prairie Farms in West Point. He retired as Production Manager of Rose Hill Furniture Manufacturing Co after 16 years of service. Harland was a devoted man of faith and loved his family dearly. He was close to all God’s creation, loved the outdoors, kept an immaculate yard and home and greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting. Very civic minded and humble, he was a former alderman for the City of Okolona, was on the Board of Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home at his death, was former President of Wilson Park in Okolona and was President and founder of the White Tail Hunting Club. He will be sorely missed by his family and a grateful community.

A celebration of his life and home-going will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Faith Outreach Church in Okolona, located on Hwy 41. Bro. Jimmy Bryan will officiate assisted by Rev. Bill Cornett. Private burial will follow at Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Saturday) from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1 pm- service time, all at Faith Outreach Church. Holland Funeral Directors, Okolona Chapel is honored to be assisting their friends.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Whitlock Pigg of Okolona; son, Paul Pigg (Tammy) of Amory; daughters, Valerie Pigg Rosentreter of Honduras, Pam Gann (Chip) of Houston, and Wanda Carol Sweeney (Doug) of Okolona; brother, . J.D. Pigg (Betty) of Carthage; three sisters, Ramona Brooks of Carthage, Shirley Ladner of Gulfport, and Gloria Jean Spears of Carthage; five grandchildren, Michelle Holman (Jay), Stephanie Larsen (Eric), Crystal Hicks (Kenny), Clark Carlisle, and Anna Kathryn Gann; four great-grandchildren; Annabelle and Luke Holman, and Austin and Easton Hicks. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Rodney, Jimmy Dale, and Larry Pigg and his son-in-law, Chuck Carlisle.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Hicks, Jay Holman, Clark Carlisle, Tommy Rogers, Richard Stallings, and Buddy Mims. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the White Tail Hunting Club.
