Mary Joan “Joanie” Marthaler Tucker, daughter of the late Henry and Verda Terral Marthaler was born June 2, 1938. After a long and courageous fight with cancer, Joan passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017, at home in Tuscumbia surrounded by family and friends.
A graduate of Colbert County High School, Joan attended Florence State College (UNA) before accepting full-time employment with First Family Finance where she served for more than 40 years.
Joan professed her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church where everyone considered her a member of their family. Joan’s church family has supported her through good times and bad, just as she has done for so many others through the years. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as spending time with family and friends, enjoying gospel and country music, traveling, playing bunko with the girls, and Alabama football. With a fun-loving and colorful personality Joan sported her crimson red and houndstooth with great pride…and was always glad to return a good “Roll Tide!”
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Johnny Tucker, sister Elizabeth Anne Marthaler Wilson, brother Frederick Terral Marthaler, stepson Butch Tucker, and godson Chapin Montgomery.
Joan’s life and love will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family: brother Henry Marthaler, Jr. (Barbara); sister-in-law Marjorie Marthaler; nieces and nephews Bill Marthaler (Monica), Julia Hill (Craig), Terry Marthaler (Pam), Leigh Tittle (Redus); great nieces and nephews Davis Hill, Drei Marthaler (Taylor), Ryan Marthaler, Kirsten Marthaler, Candice Cameron (Zach), Mathew Tittle (Courtney), and Molly Grace Tittle; stepsons Mike and Ricky Tucker; best friend Sarah Montgomery, and godsons Crispin and Hunter Montgomery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Alabama, with Memorial Service to follow.
Pallbearers will be Crispin Montgomery, Jason Isbell, and Joan’s great nephews.
The family of Joan wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Parker, Dr. Patel, Dr. Daugherty, and Kindred at Home Hospice and Elder Care staffs.
