Harry Eugene Cook – Obituary

Harry Eugene Cook of Huntsville, Alabama passed away at Crestwood Hospital on the evening of April 14, 2017. He was 87 years old.
He was born on July 31, 1929 in Andalusia, Alabama. He graduated from Andalusia High School in 1947. He continued his education at Auburn University and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following his graduation he moved to Huntsville, Alabama and started his career with Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal. During the 43 years he worked there he met his wife of 61 years, LaMerle Clem Cook. From 1982-1990 he served as chairman for Panel V of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). During his tenure he was instrumental in bringing Spain into NATO. NATO was a driving force in his later career.
He was preceded in death by his son Russell Eugene Cook. He is survived by his wife LaMerle Cook, daughter Lisa Bevill and husband Rick, son Mike Cook, wife Kelli and son Drew, and brother John Cook and wife Shirley.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel with the Revs. Mike Ratliff and Tony Campbell officiating.
