Mr. Howell died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born October 19, 1924, in Morgan County to Simeon Lewis Howell, Sr. and Ruth Patterson Howell. Being a steward of the land, he always had an abundant garden which he loved sharing with his family and friends. He grew hundreds of trees from seeds into seedlings and replanted them all over the farm. During retirement, he enrolled in several college classes where he learned how to throw clay on a potter’s wheel. Soon after this, he built his own pottery kick wheel and generated various forms of clay creations. He enjoyed sharing this skill at Bible Schools and with old and young alike. His greatest passion and pleasure was working the farm. From hauling hay to feeding the fish, cows, and horses, he felt comfort in completing the tasks at hand in a timely manner. He prided himself in the self sufficiency the farm brought to his family. As a devout christian man, he served his church in a variety of roles. Any given day you would find him being a good samaritan and helping others along the way. He was employed by and retired from Wolverine Tube after 31 years of service. He also worked for Redstone Arsenal during World War II, he worked for a time for the Railroad and at also delivered groceries for Mr. Quinn in Hartselle.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Clara Nell Howell, his parents, and a brother: Arthur Malcolm Howell.
The family would like to thank the staff at Summerford Nursing Home and Encore at Summerford Rehab for their wonderful care.
