Elizabeth “Betty” Castleberry, age 91, formerly of Sheffield, died Saturday, April 8, 2017. Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Randy Burbank officiating. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery, Corinth, Mississippi.
Betty was a native of Cherokee. She was a life-long military wife and was a teacher. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield and the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday school class. She served as president of the Garden Club of Alabama (1989-1991), served on the Alabama Council of Flower Show Judges, and was a member of the Rivermont Garden Club.
She is survived by her husband of seventy years, retired Lt. Col. Gene Neil Castleberry; son, Steve; daughter, Sarah; brother, Frank Brotherton; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the GCA Scholarship Fund.
