James Lewis Hickman, age 74 of Athens, AL passed away, at his residence, on Sunday, April 2, 2017. Mr. Hickman was born on October 18, 1942 in DuQuoin, IL to Dorris James and Helen Propst Hickman.

Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Ann Dees.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Dana Hickman of Athens, AL; two sons, Steven Carl Hickman (Penny) of Florence, AL and Ronald Aaron Hickman (Tina) of Mt. Juliet, TN; one daughter, Susan Rene Moore (David) of Muscle Shoals, AL; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; special family members, Patti and Jack Nix of Russellville, AL, Chris and Patsy Weigart of Anderson, AL, Jackie and Barry Beavers of Lexington, AL, Sherwood Clay of Boulder, CO and numerous other family and friends.

Mr. Hickman was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens, Al and an active community leader. He was a 1960 graduate of Elkville High School where he played basketball for the “Bluebirds” and continued to enjoy a love of basketball his entire life.

The services for Mr. Hickman will be Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00AM at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Edwin Jenkins and Dr. Robert Fullerton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Mitchell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Tarnow, Mike Houx, David Ausley, Tim McClellan, Jon Coulter and Jason Christopher.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Athens, AL.
