Olguita Prado Dollison, a longtime resident of Huntsville died on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama. A Catholic Mass funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Dollison was born in Guatemala, the youngest daughter of Victoria and David Prado Velez. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1949 to study at Ohio University as foreign exchange student. After graduating with a degree in microbiology, she married John B. Dollison. The newlyweds moved from Columbus, Ohio to Denver so that John could complete his studies.
In 1965, Olguita and John settled in Huntsville, where Mrs. Dollison worked as a medical technician at Crestwood Hospital. Concurrently, she helped raise their two children, J.B. and Kathy, and served as the bookkeeper for Mr. Dollison’s construction company. During this time, Olguita was extremely active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Home Builder’s Association where she earned numerous accolades, including Woman of the Year and an induction in the Alabama Builder’s Hall of Fame. Olguita attended both Holy Spirit, and St. Mary of the Visitation, Catholic Churches.
Survivors include John Dollison, her husband of 64 years; a son, J.B. Dollison and his wife Donna (both of Houston); a daughter Kathy Dollison in Huntsville; and various nieces and nephews (and their children), most of whom live in Guatemala.
