Shirley Annette Springfield Arndt, 80, passed away at her home in Cullman, Alabama on March 11, 2017. A rosary will take place on Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cullman, Alabama. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. at the family home, 361 County Road 1414, Cullman, Alabama.

Mrs. Arndt was preceded in death by her parents, C.D and Jewell Ashwander Springfield, and her brother, Murray “Skippy” Springfield.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Matthew Arndt; her sons, James “Matt” Arndt Jr. (Cindy Arce) and John Michael Arndt; and daughter, Angie Arndt Harris; grandchildren, Daniel Arndt (Melissa) and Anna Carpenter Harris; great-granddaughter, Everley Elisabeth Arndt; sisters, Peggy Springfield Boozer (Jack), Linda Springfield Adams, and Celia Springfield Graham.

Shirley was born and raised in Falkville, Alabama. She lived in Decatur, Alabama for most of her life, working alongside her husband at Medical Arts Pharmacy until their retirement. She was a former member of Falkville Methodist Church and a current member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cullman. She spent her more recent years as a faithful volunteer and cheerleader for the Committee on Church Cooperation in Decatur, Alabama, doing what she loved – serving others and laughing with her fellow volunteers. She is still serving others in death, as she donated her body to the anatomical donor program at UAB.
