Elizabeth “Betty Liz” Jeanette Hester Wilson, 87, of Roanoke, formerly of Florence Alabama, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017.

She was born at home in Vina, Alabama, on September 9, 1929, daughter of the late Myrtle Love and Marion Jasper Hester. Her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Love Wilson McPhail, and her husband, Roy Glenn Wilson also preceded her in death.

Betty Liz graduated from Coffee High School in Florence. She served as office manager for a radio station in Muscle Shoals.

She was a talented artist, using oils to paint folk art. She also taught Middle Eastern dance in Muscle Shoals.

She and her husband, Roy established the very successful Wilson Bait Company, distributing fishing tackle all over the South eastern states until their retirement.

Betty Liz at one time operated a goat farm.

In her later years after she had moved to Roanoke, she volunteered at the Presbyterian Center in Roanoke.

Her family will have a private inurnment at a later date, next to her daughter at Evergreen Burial Park, in Roanoke. They ask that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to the Presbyterian Community Center in Roanoke.
