James Joseph “Joey” Ray – Obituary

Funeral service for James Joseph “Joey” Ray, 21, will be Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Charles Sparks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Ray died on Monday, February 20, 2017. He was born August 4, 1995, in Morgan County to Rickey Lynn and Kathryn Ann Krips Ray.

Joey grew up in Priceville, Alabama and lived with his parents, Rickey and Kathy Ray, his brother Stephen, his sister Katie Lynne and his beloved golden retriever, Kenzie.

In his youth, he loved to collect coins with his grandfathers’ and he liked to draw, and loved to learn. Joey was a most intelligent young man, who started to take classes at Calhoun Community College during his sophmore year of high school. He graduated from Calhoun in 2014 with an A.S. degree in General Studies and then transferred to The University of Montevallo. where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Social Sciences in 2016 at the age of 20. Joey loved learning and made many friends through his intellectual pursuits, some of whom were his teachers. He will be forever loved and missed by all.

He is survived by his parents, a brother: Stephen Ray (Amber) and a sister: Katie Ray Key (Jesse), one niece: Ava Kathryn Key and two grandmothers: Carmela Krips and Kathryn Ray.

He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers: James Russell Krips and Nolen Ray.
