Mr. William Elbert Beard, age 87, husband of Beverly Newberg Beard, and a resident of Mooresville Pike in Columbia, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Greg Daimwood officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10-11AM at the funeral home. An inurnment will follow the service in Maury Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
William was born on June 16, 1929 in the Bethel Community and was the son of the late Raleigh F. Beard and the late Betty Lee Hood Beard. He was a graduate of West Point and retired from the United States Army and the U.S. Customs Service. William was a member of Ephesus Church of Christ in Columbia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: William Davis (Sharon) Beard of Granite Bay, CA, Stephan Beard of Albuquerque, NM, Raleigh Beard of Forrest City, AR; beloved daughter-in-law: Beatrice Beard of Pottstown, PA; son-in-law: John Seybold of Royersford, PA; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter: Valerie Seybold; and siblings: Louise Waldron, Doris Wakefield, and Kinnard Beard.
The family has requests no flowers.
