Jo Ellen Mitchell Kerby – Obituary

Jo Ellen Mitchell Kerby was born September 12, 1928 in McNairy County, TN the daughter of the late Arlie Marshall Hicks and Amy Skelton Hicks. She was united in marriage to Edward Mitchell on November 9, 1946. Mr. Mitchell preceded her in death on May 13, 1976. On October 13, 1989, she was united in marriage to Billy Joe Kerby who preceded her in death on January 15, 2016. Mrs. Kerby was a retired LPN from McNairy County General Hospital and was Vice-President of her class in LPN school. She previously worked for Dr. H. G. Woods, a former Dentist in Selmer.

Mrs. Kerby departed this life on February 13, 2017 in Selmer at the age of 88 Years, 5 Months, 1 Day. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Selmer. She was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother. Mrs. Kerby was a wonderful cook, especially her chocolate pies, and enjoyed gardening and traveling. She was an avid reader and worked multiple crossword puzzles each day. She enjoyed her monthly luncheons with her friends.

Mrs. Jo Ellen is survived by two sons, Jerry Mitchell and wife Charlotte of Selmer, TN, Rodney Mitchell and wife Peggy of Bethel Springs, TN; four grandchildren, Jeremy Mitchell of Sparta, TN, Philip Mitchell of Ogden, UT, Andrea Mitchell of Selmer, TN, Ross Mitchell of Selmer, TN; a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Kerby was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorraine Nederstat, Elaine (Polly) King; a brother, Arlie Cecil Hicks.
