John W. “Sonny” Massey – Obituary

Mr. John W. “Sonny” Massey, age 70, husband of Linda Woodard Massey, and a resident of Lookout Drive in Columbia, passed away Monday evening, February 13, 2017 at his residence.

 

The family will celebrate his life with services at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Born on June 18, 1946 in Maury County, John was the son of the late John Massey and the late Lucille Henson Massey. He served his country in the National Guard for ten years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He retired from Local 86 Asbestos Workers of America as an insulator and was a member of the FOP. John loved working part time with all the men at Solid Waste. He enjoyed auctions and yard sales, as well as, wrestling and all sports. John also liked drinking coffee with his friends at McDonalds and Bucky’s. John collected many different things, and loved his dogs and cats.

 

In addition to his wife, Linda, of 47 years, he is survived by his sons: Johnny Massey of Columbia, Joey Massey of Columbia; sisters: June (Boyd) Wood of Columbia, Linda Faye (Clyde) Harris of Columbia, Virginia (Carl) Davis of Columbia, Patty South of Columbia; and grandchildren: Lauren (Justin) Carter of Columbia, Private First Class Michael “Mickey” Massey of  Ft. Hood, TX, Courtney Massey of Columbia, and Cole Massey of Columbia.

 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Billy Massey.
