Verta Lou Coker Chamness, 85, of Arab, The Brashiers Chapel Community, died Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham.
Verta Lou was born January 16, 1932 in Marshall County to Glady Horace Coker and Ludie Belle Wright Coker. She was employed by the State of Alabama DHR as a supervisor until her retirement. She married Robert “Buddy” Chamness on September 6, 1953. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her Church work, sewing and working in her flowers. She lived in the Brashier’s Chapel community all of her life.
She was a member of Grace Church on Georgia Mountain.
She is survived by her husband: Robert O.L. “Buddy” Chamness; her sons and daughters-in-law: Robert L. and Sandy Chamness; Albert and Robyn Chamness; daughters: Susan Chamness and Janet Martin; grandchildren: Nickey and Angie Chamness, Layla and Scotty Foshee, Dustin Hollaway and Audra Martin; great grandchildren: Cordell Lee Minor, Hannah Grace Chamness and Peyton Elijah Matkin. She was preceded in death by her parents: Glady and Ludie Coker and her brother: Everett Earl Coker.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 14, 2017 at Brashier’s Chapel Cemetery with Brother: Larry Dyar, officiating and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Green, Johnny Chamness, Scotty Foshee, Dustin Hollaway, Stuart “Smokey” Brock and Travis Nelson.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2017 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
