Barbara Venable Speegle – Obituary

Barbara Venable Speegle, 81, of Decatur, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at Riverside Assisted Living. Mrs. Speegle was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on Oct. 31, 1935, to Manuel and Lillie Mae Venable. She was a lifelong member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, she was retired from AT & T, a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Priceville Civitan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bobby Speegle Sr.; and sister, Katie Smith.

She is survived by three sons, Bobby Speegle Jr. (Rita), Billy Speegle (Scott), and Baron Speegle (Wendy); two brothers, James Venable (Joyce) and Chester Venable (Donna); and one sister, Wanda Morgan (Butch); also four grandchildren, Wendy Irvin (Robert), Lauren Speegle, Bentlee Speegle, and Lucy Speegle; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Jackson Irvin; also a special friend, Wallace Cotton Hazelrig.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Linville and Reverend Dr. Harold Fanning officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Shoal Creek Baptist Church Missions Fund.

Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
