FLORENCE-On Saturday, January 21 The Florence Police were called out to an apartment on Simpson Street just before 10 a.m. to conduct a welfare check. The body of a female who has since been identified as Andrea Susan Forbes was discovered. Florence Police Chief Ron Tyler released a statement on Thursday, January 26 regarding this case:
“On January 21, 2017, at 10 am Florence Police Officers responded to a welfare check at 326 Simpson Street, Apt 25, Florence, AL. Officers approached the apartment. While looking into the window of apartment 25, they observed a white female laying inside the apartment. The female was unresponsive. Officers then entered the apartment to find the female deceased and no other occupants inside the apartment. The female has been identified as Andrea Susan Forbes, a 33-year-old female. Ms. Forbes is from Tennessee and been living in Florence since at least 2015.
Detectives were contacted and began working the case as a death investigation. Evidence from the scene was collected and potential witnesses have continued to be interviewed since the time our detectives arrived on the scene.
The body of Ms. Forbes was removed from the scene and an autopsy was conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville, AL. On January 25, 2017, the Florence Police Department was notified that the death of Ms. Forbes has been ruled a homicide.
Detectives have continued to interview potential witnesses and friends of the victim in order to establish a timeline of events leading to Ms. Forbes’ murder. However, the evidence and statements collected to this point lead detectives to believe that there are likely additional members of our community with information about this case. We ask these folks, or anyone with information about this case, to do the right thing and contact Florence Police at 256-768-2764 or text a tip to 274637 using keyword “FPDTIP” plus your message.
Our primary focus at this time is in providing closure to a family who has tragically lost a love one. This case is still very active. We do not believe that this was a random act of violence and believe that Ms. Forbes was specifically targeted in this case. Specific details about the manner of death will not be released at this time as they are critical to insuring justice for the deceased and her family.
Additionally, I would like to personally recognize the extraordinary individual effort from each member of our detective squad. Each of them have worked tirelessly since Saturday to gather and collect evidence, identify and locate potential witnesses, and to ensure all of those responsible will be held accountable for this crime. “
