James J. Williams, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at 10:27 PM at the North Miss. Medical Center Hospice Unit. Born in Sulligent, Ala. On September 4, 1942 to Mose Jackson Williams and Gertrude McKay Williams, he grew up in the rural area of Alabama between Sulligent and Vernon, known as Shake Rag. He married Nona Ellen Adams on March 11, l972 in Jasper, Ala. He and his family have lived in the Nettleton area for over 45 years. James was retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing in Verona. His great love in life was serving his Lord and Savior and expressing his faith through singing gospel music. His family is known far and wide as the Williams Family Singers. A member of Jesus Name Church in Nettleton, James loved all God’s creation and keeping his yard. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed collecting watches, knives and caps. He now sings in the heavenly choir and makes music with Jesus and all the Saints in Glory.
A service filled with music and preaching will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Billy Watkins and Bro. Bill Hale officiating. Heaven’s Mountain Band from Red Bay and John Blackwell will provide southern gospel music. Bro. Paul Carlson will conduct the graveside service at the Williams Family Plot in Pine Grove Cemetery east of Nettleton. Visitation will be from 4 PM-8PM today (Mon.) and from 11 AM-service time on Tuesday all at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.
Those he loved most that mourn his passing include his wife, Nona Adams Williams and his son, Terry Williams both of Wren. his daughter, Rebecca Franks and husband, Perry of Mooreville. 5 grandchildren, Tiffany White (Blake), Austin Putt (Ashley), Cody Franks, (Aleizha) and Courtney Franks and Corey Franks. 6 great grandchildren, Shianne, Nyklous, Cydniee, Carter, Noah and Easton. 1 sister, Brenda Myhand of Nettleton. Two brothers, Doyle Williams (Pat) of Wren and Dean Williams (Lola) of Hamilton, Ala. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
Pallbearers will be grandson’s, grand sons-in-law, Chris and Bradley Merchant, Michael McKay and Barry Byrd.
