Bob (Robert Fulton) Landon – Obituary

Dr. Bob (Robert Fulton) Landon, age 83 died Friday night at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Dr. Landon was born in Virginia and grew up in Nashville, the son of the late William Fulton and Vera Smith Landon. He graduated from David Lipscomb High School, David Lipscomb College and received a Doctorate in Education and Chemistry from Peabody College at Vanderbilt. He married Ouida Heady in 1960 and started his career at Freed-Hardeman College where he taught chemistry, algebra, and physics and later developed the pre-engineering program at Freed- Hardeman University. He retired in 2000, after having taught forty years. While teaching at Freed-Hardeman he also preached for churches of Christ throughout the area, including Tennessee and North Mississippi. He was a member of Roby Church of Christ for many years and later the Henderson Church of Christ. He was involved in community activities and had participated, along with his wife, in mission work to Haiti. Mrs. Landon preceded in death in 2002. He moved to Nashville a few years ago to make his home near his daughters.

He is survived by two daughters; Joyce Landon Kretch and husband Dr. Tim Kretch of Brentwood and Elizabeth Landon Harris and husband Dr. Paul Harris and two granddaughters; Rosalee Harris and Isabel Harris all of Nashville.

He was preceded in death by a sister Patty Dugger.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel. Burial will be at the Henderson City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday.
