James Ray Stults – Obituary

James Ray Stults was born Feb. 16, 1938, in Iron City, Tennessee the son of the late Lambert and Clura Wayne Butler Stults. He was united in marriage to Betty Jo Daniel on Nov. 22, 1961. Mr. Stults was a retired auto worker for Ford Motor Company, a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, and a United States Air Force veteran. Mr. Stults departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at El Reposo Nursing Home, Florence, Alabama at the age of 78 years, ten months, and 11 days.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Daniel Stults, of Iron City, Tennessee; a son, Stephen Wayne Stults and wife, Joy, of Collinwood, Tennessee; daughters, Vickie Jo Stults Robbins, of Thompsons Station, Tennessee, and Tammie Stults Scott, of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jonah Robbins, Rachel Stults, Gabriella Stults, and Avery Stults; sister-in-law, Elaine Stults, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; niece, Kim Hutto; and nephew, Todd Hutto.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stults was preceded in death by a brother, Joe E. Stults, and nephew, Doug Stults.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Collinwood with Billy Hill officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery near Iron City with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers are Jonah Robbins, Harold Thompson, Charles Daniel, Carl Fred Daniel, John Daniel, and Kelby Daniel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Alzheimer’s Association, Mid South Chapter, 4825 Trousdale Dr., Suite 220, Nashville, TN 38463-6325. Donations may also be made online at alz.org.

Visitation is today from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
