Passed from labor to refreshment
Coy Rice Cannon, 86, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 at his home after a short illness. He was born May 21, 1930 to Sam and Elizabeth Cannon, who preceded him in death
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edna, who passed away in 2012, Grandson, Daniel Cannon, Brother, Lacy Cannon, Sister, Roberta and husband W.H. Bevis, brother in law, Donny Phillips
He is survived by sons, James Cannon and wife Debbie, Bart Cannon and wife Rena, Daughter, Carla Gasque and husband Roger (whom he loved as a son)
Grandchildren: Lauren Booker O’Kelley, Robyn Cannon, Susan Cannon Phillips (John), Mark Booker, Matthew Cannon and Jonathan Cannon. Step grandchildren, Kelli, Chris, Wesley and Lauren Gasque.
Great grandson, Brady William O’Kelley, who was the light of his life and whom he lovingly called “Jack”
Sisters: Virginia Nell Brown (Wayne), Mary Olive (Jerry), Nina Rhodes (Howard), Anne McMillan (A.C.) and Jean Phillips, Sister in law, Freda Cannon, Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Mr. Cannon was a 1948 graduate of Central High School. After graduation he served America in the U.S. Army in Korea. He worked at Fuzzys Feed for over 25 years, serving many farmers and cattlemen in the area. He also worked at Pet Depot for several years in his retirement. He was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Music Director and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM 14 where he was Past Master, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Cahaba Shrine Member.
Visitation will be Monday, December 26, at Greenview Memorial Chapel from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 27 at Liberty Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Roger Houston and Brother Jim Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers will be Mike McKey, Tony McKey (nephews), Donnie Bevis, Butch Gray, Will Motlow, and Tommy Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be W.J. Hall, Ron Hastings, Ricky Simmons and the Men’s Sunday School class at Liberty Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express gratitude and thanks to, Dr. Ed Moore, longtime physician and friend; Gentiva Hospice who provided excellent healthcare, especially Rosa, Lisa, Kristy and Jamie; Lifelong friends, W.J. Hall and Butch Gray; Caregivers, Cindy Vickery and Jean Lucy; and the men of Central Heights Baptist Church who built the ramp at his home
