Robbie Battles Goforth – Obituary

Robbie Battles Goforth, 92, died Saturday at Helen Keller Hospital. Mrs. Goforth was born May 3, 1924, in Limestone County. Graveside services will be Wednesday, 3 p.m., at Ripley Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Survivors are daughters, Barbara Carpenter, Athens, Alabama, and Janet Davenport and husband, Tommy, Muscle Shoals, Alabama; son, Bill Battles, Easley, South Carolina; stepdaughters, Gale Ferguson and husband, Billy Wayne, Athens, Alabama, Doris Marie Malone, Tanner, Alabama, and Jane Hodges, Knoxville, Tennessee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our family would like to thank Dr. Andre Taylor, fourth floor nurses at Helen Keller Hospital, and Keller Hospice for the wonderful care given to “Granny Robbie” during her sickness.

She was preceded in death by husbands, William A. (Andrew) Battles and John W. (J.W.) Goforth; parents, Robert E. Cox and Johnnie Owens Cox; and sister, Sara Elizabeth Inman.
