crash1DEKALB COUNTY-Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris released a statement on the auto accident involving a sheriff’s deputy that took place on Tuesday, December 6:

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:

“On today’s date at about 6:00 am the K-9 Deputy Dustin Jones radioed to DeKalb County Sheriff’s Dispatch, and all he could tell them is that he wrecked and was in someone’s yard in Rainsville. The Deputies and Rainsville Police Department started looking for Deputy Jones, they found him at 1123 Main Street West in Rainsville. Rainsville Fire Department came to assist on getting Deputy Jones out of the vehicle. They had to use their extrication tools to cut him and Yogi the K-9 out of the vehicle. Deputy Jones was transported to Huntsville hospital, he has suffered a broken leg and is in surgery now. The K-9 Yogi was taken to the vet to be checked out and seems to be ok.crash2
Right now the Investigation shows that speed was not a factor, it was the road conditions.
Sheriff Harris says “We want to thank the Rainsville Police Department, Rainsville Fire Department, DeKalb Ambulance Service, and Geraldine Police Department for their assistance on locating and extrication Deputy Jones from the vehicle. We are glad that Deputy Jones is doing ok and expected to make a full recovery.”
