Funeral services for Mr. Matthew E. Simpson, age 89 and his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Martin Simpson, age 81, are scheduled for 2 PM, Tuesday, December 6, 2016 in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Scotts Hill with Bro. Tim Buffaloe officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery. Mr. Simpson passed away Sunday at his home near Lexington. He was born March 12, 1927 in Stanton, TN to the late David and Nancy Davis Simpson. He was retired from Columbus McKinnon, a farmer, a member of Hinkle Baptist Church, and enjoyed playing guitar and harmonica. Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Simpson on Saturday; also, one brother, James Simpson; and five sisters, Nancy Jackson, Elizabeth Alexander, Sue Williams, Ruby Palmer, and Patsy Simpson. Survivors include five sons, Robert David Simpson (Becky), Harry Simpson, Johnny Simpson (Vickie), Jeff Simpson, and Mike “Pete” Simpson; four daughters, Janie Moody (Jerry), Wilma Foster (Terry), Kathy Young, and Debbie Hamilton (Dale); two brothers, Sam and J. D. Simpson; three sisters, Mary Plunk, Annimae Creasy, and Shirley Dawson; nineteen grandchildren; forty-two great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
