jimEarl Rexford “Jim” Montgomery passed away on Sunday after a courageous battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, June Ellett Montgomery; stepson, Rusty Miller of Huntsville; daughter, Beth Montgomery Janeway and husband, Joe Janeway and grandson, Jonathan Janeway, all of Milton, Georgia; sister, Judy Podunavac of Logan, West Virginia; brother, Junior Montgomery of Midway Park, North Carolina; and special nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Ethel, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Laccie Montgomery, and two brothers, Sam Montgomery of Logan West Virginia and Eddy Montgomery of Gulfport, Mississippi.
Jim began a lengthy career in the soft drink industry in Logan, West Virginia at the Pepsi Cola Plant. He went on to become vice president of Lynchburg, Virginia Coca Cola Plant and later Canada Dry in Richmond, Va.
In 1976 Jim moved to Huntsville and became part owner of Double Cola and later Sundrop Bottling Co. He enjoyed a lengthy career and retired in 2002.
Jim’s retirement was full of his favorite activities including gardening, golfing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge since 1976.
His generosity extended to anyone in need. His quick wit and gregarious personality would always brighten your day.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Laughlin Service Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wed. Nov. 2nd, with a Celebration of Life service at 12 noon in the chapel.
