On October 23, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Brooks will be hosting “Academy Day” at Madison Academy, in the Madison Academy Cafeteria, 325 Slaughter Road, Madison, AL.

Rep. Brooks will make brief remarks and will be available for comment.  RSVPs are not necessary, but welcome.  Contact Annalyse Keller at annalyse.keller@mail.house.gov.

At Brooks’ invitation, representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will attend.  The academy representatives will answer questions and distribute information about their respective institutions.

Applicants to all service academies, except the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, must obtain a nomination from an official nominating source.  This includes members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, the president, the vice president, and the Secretaries of the Military Departments.  A member of Congress can nominate students to attend an academy if the students meet eligibility requirements and live in the representative’s congressional district.

Congressman Brooks established a nominating board to review applications, interview prospective candidates, and make the final selection of 5th District nominees to be submitted to the academies.  Nominations are determined using the competitive method with all nominees submitted unranked to the academies, allowing equal opportunity for each candidate nominated from the district.

All nomination applications must be submitted to Congressman Brooks’ office by Friday, November 4, 2016.  For more information about the nomination process, please visit the Congressman’s website at https://brooks.house.gov/serving-you/service-academy-nominations.
