Edith Ilene Gortney Bullard – Obituary

edithEdith Ilene Gortney Bullard, 97, of Corinth, MS, formerly of Iuka, MS, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. Born February 9, 1919, Mrs. Bullard was the co-owner of Bullard Upholstery and Furniture in Iuka for several years. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and as president of the United Methodist Women for a number of years. She also served on several other church committees. Mrs. Bullard was also a school teacher. She loved making quilts, embroidery, and crocheting. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Dr. Leonard Pratt. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers include Alan Young, Brad Landin, Ben Landin, Kevin Clark, Bryan Chambers, and Ethan Lane Young. Visitation is scheduled for 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home on Saturday. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. She is survived by a daughter, Marie Dell Bullard Young (Bud), of Corinth; three grandchildren, Andrea Clark (Kevin) of Milan, TN, Allison Chambers (Bryan) of Madison, AL, and Alan Young of Corinth; six great-grandchildren, Brad Landin (Emily) of Southside, AL, Ben Landin of Troy, AL, Ethan Lane Young of Corinth, and Merrilee Clark, Samantha Clark, and Sarah Clark, all of Milan, TN; a special in-law, Verlee Young of Counce, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Delmar Bullard (1917 – 1991); her parents, Claude Quitman and Mattie Jane Martin Gortney; three sisters, Ruth Pannell, Amie Hilburn, and Lorena Grimes; a brother, Coleman Gortney; and a special friend, Roy Johnson.
