Sallie Gallaher Lee Meek – Obituary

Sallie Gallaher Lee Meek was born in Wayne County, Tennessee. She attended the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville, Tennessee. When she married Neval Meek in 1947, they moved to Florence, Alabama for his job at the Florence Times.

Sallie is survived by her son, Marvin (Kay) Meek, and her daughter, Martha (Dewey) Gray. Five grandchildren: Laura Wisdom, Craig Meek, Keith (Bridgett) Meek, Will Gray, Katie (Phillip) Mash, and eight great grandchildren: Whitney, Wesley, and Walker Wisdom, Hunter, Houston, and Holden Meek, Audrey Kate and Phillip Mash, IV. She also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ella Mae Dixon Lee, sister, Geneva Long, and daughter-in-law, Linda Hallmark Meek.

She loved her family, handicrafts of all sorts, and watching sports (especially UT women’s basketball). She was keen on noticing the beauty, particularly in nature.

Special thanks to Dr. Frances Brown of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and the Cherokee County Nursing Home staff in Centre, Alabama, for helping us care for our mother during these past years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to Arc of the Shoals.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2016, atTri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Dr. Mark Brown and Robert Spencer will officiate. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Elkins Funeral Home,Florence, is in charge of the arrangements.
