FLORENCE– The Run for a Reason 5K and 1 mile fun run will be held October 2, 2016 at Shoals Christian School in Florence. The fundraising event will aid in the recovery of Rivers Starkey, Ragan Morris and Kinley Galbreath, who each suffered traumatic brain injuries. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at Shoals Christian School and the route goes through Heathrow Subdivision.
Rivers Starkey was involved in a terrible incident in October of 2015. He was shot three times, one of those resulting in a traumatic brain injury. He is still recovering and receiving therapy at Shepard Center in Atlanta. Ragan Morris was in a devastating Jet Ski accident this past Memorial Day resulting in a traumatic brain injury. After more than 80 days in Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, she is now home and undergoing intense therapy at the local Easter Seals Center and Birmingham. Kenley Galbreath was infected with enterovirus causing her traumatic brain injury. She is recovering at home, yet is partially paralyzed and requires a ventilator to breath.
These families have and will continue to incur mounting medical expenses to help their children recover to their full potential. Friends and family members have come together to organize this event as a way to relieve this financial burden and support Rivers, Ragan and Kinley.
Community support is appreciated and anyone wishing to assist can register for the event, make donations or purchase t-shirts.

Registration will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Shoals Christian School in Florence. The 1 mile fun run fee is $15 at begins at 2:00 p.m. The 5K fee is $30 before September 26, $35 for late registration and begins at 3 p.m. Participants will receive a t-shirt, drinks, snacks and other great door prizes drawn at random. First place winners in all categories will win special prizes and gift cards.
