Funeral service for Marlin “Bud“ Coffey, age 74, of Decatur, will be Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 12:00 pm at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, with Pastor Marvin McCormick and Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Coffey, who died Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born November 24, 1941, in Courtland, AL to Clifton “Click“ Coffey and Sadie Thompson Coffey. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dwight Coffey, sister Kay Terry.
He is survived by his loving wife Anita King Coffey; two sons Thomas Coffey (Kristi) of West Blocton, AL and Michael David Coffey (Kristie) of Gardendale, AL; one daughter Tonya Coffey Hill of Moulton; fourteen grandchildren Justin, Clay, Brandon, Ronnie, Clint, Ryan, Nick, Kyndal, Logan, Cassie, Josh, Allie, Christian and Micah; three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Coffey graduated from Decatur High School in 1960, joined the Navy and retired after 30 years. He loved working with Habitat for Humanity and specialized in painting. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, and made many mission trips. The youth affectionately called him “Vern”. He is also survived by his “girls” Lizzie and Wiggles.
Pallbearers: will be friends of the “Over the Hill Gang” from Habitat for Humanity.
