William Rodney Barron – Obituary

William Rodney Barron, 95, of Decatur passed away on Aug. 28, 2016. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Barron is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Barron and Pauline Dilbeck Tribble; and his stepfather, T.M. Tribble.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ann Hughes Barron; children, Dr. William Rodney Barron Jr. (Mary Ross) of Dothan, Elizabeth Barron Russell (Vaughan) of Selma, Robert Lawrence Barron of Decatur and Bruce Joseph Barron of Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Will Barron (Kristin), Mary Nelan Cowart (Doug), Ben Barron (Anna), Vaughan Russell Jr. (Peyton), Ben Russell and Ann Russell Huskey (Whit); and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Barron served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, where he was a member of the Submarine Service. He was a graduate of The University of Texas and moved on to work with NASA at the Marshall Space Flight Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church or the Salvation Army.

Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
