Lloyd Span Jones – Obituary

Lloyd Span Jones, 90, of Decatur passed away on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016 at River City Center. He was born on Sunday, Sept. 13, 1925 in Chilton County, son of the late Ezekiel Span Jones and the late Hattie Novice Wooley Jones.

Lloyd graduated from Auburn University and spent over 35 years in finance and banking. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge at Omaha Beach. Lloyd was a Baptist in his faith and a former member of Mulberry Baptist Church, Fifth Avenue Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Central Baptist Church of Decatur. He was a former member of the City of Opportunity Civitan Club of Decatur.

His surviving relatives include his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Bean Jones; son, Brian Span Jones of Montgomery; and brother, Glenn V. Jones of Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezekiel Span and Hattie Novice Jones; sister, Sara Nell Jones Rasberry; brothers, John Andrew and Chalmus H. Jones.

Friends will be received from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 26, 2016 at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton. Graveside services will be held Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Mulberry Baptist Cemetery in Maplesville. Martin Funeral Home directing.
