unnamedATHENS-Veterans can enjoy free fresh veggies or other items at the Aug. 20 Athens Saturday Market when organizers honor those who have served our nation.

Market Committee Chairwoman Laurie Glenn said the first 40 veterans who arrive at the Market will receive a $5 Market Buck to redeem with any grower or vendor.

Market Manager Misti Fillingame noticed that many veterans enjoy the weekly Athens Saturday Market at the Green Street Pavilion because most wear their armed service hats.

“We want to say, ‘Thank you,’ to our veterans for their service,” Glenn said.unnamed (4) “We will have signs of appreciation and some red, white and blue décor as well.”

Market goers are asked to help honor our veterans by wearing our nation’s colors to this week’s Market.

Athens Saturday Market is a state-certified farmers market operated by the Spirit of Athens through the Athens Saturday Market Committee. It is every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon from June through August.
