Nellie Ruth Killebrew Duncan, 78, from Huntsville Alabama died peacefully in the presence of her family on August 11, 2016. Ruth was born outside Lexington, Mississippi on July 7, 1938. She grew up on her family farm in Horseshoe, Mississippi with her older sister Rena Dell, her younger sister Linda and baby brother Zack where she was a member of Horseshoe Baptist Church. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Chester Gwen Killebrew and Ethel Lee Hood Killebrew as well as her sister Rena Dell. It was during her mother’s battle with heart disease that Ruth discovered one of her life’s calling which was nursing. She graduated Nursing School in Jackson Tennessee and worked in Yazoo City, Mississippi before having children and moving with her family to Huntsville in 1976. Ruth continued her nursing career in Huntsville working in the ICU of The Medical Center and completing her 30 year career in the recovery room of Huntsville Hospital. Ruth’s two children, Lea Ann Johnson and Jack Duncan continue to reside in Huntsville. Ruth’s second calling in life was to be a wonderful Mimi to her four grandchildren; Tonya Greer of Huntsville, Jackson Duncan, IV who attends Mississippi State University, Carter Duncan and Tate Duncan. There will a visitation at 1:00 pm on Sunday August 14, 2016 and a celebration of Ruth’s life following at 2:00 pm at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The National Kidney Foundation.
