Tyler discusses Officer-involved shooting of suspect – FULL TEXT

Chris Kilpatrick arrest news conference 160812_1992FLORENCE – Police Chief Ron Tyler this morning held a media conference to provide details of an officer-involved shooting that happened Thursday in St. Florian. Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle that had been allegedly taken from a church parking lot earlier in the morning.

Detective Michael Price and several other officers, according to Chief Tyler, responded to a call on the pickup truck. Once encountered, a chase ensued, resulting in a confrontation with the suspect, 42 year old Chris Kilpatrick of Florence.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has taken authority over the incident, as is standard procedure. Senior Trooper Johnathan Appling released this statement:

Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating a Florence Police Department officer-involved shooting at the request of FPD Chief Ron Tyler.  The shooting occurred Thursday, Aug. 11, during the course of a traffic stop on Chisholm Road in Florence.  The subject was transported to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Lauderdale County District Attorney.  Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.
