Thelma Barnes McMurtrie died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016 at UAB Palliative Center in Birmingham. She was born Sept. 6, 1920 in Decatur to Floyd and Nola Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude McMurtrie Sr. in 2011. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Decatur.
She is survived by two sons, Jim (Donna) McMurtrie of Madisonville, Kentucky and Claude (Debbie) McMurtrie Jr. of Trinity.She is also survived by six grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Decatur. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. until funeral time. Burial will follow in Decatur City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Hyche, Hugh Hillhouse, Mark Jacobs, Jim Pepper, Don Weems and Todd McMurtrie. Honorary pallbearer is Randy Wood.
